The Return Book Review

Hey guys

Time for another book review from my Summer Reading List and unfortunately it's not a good one but do keep reading to find out why.

The Return
By Victoria Hislop
2008

Description: Sonia knows nothing of Granada's shocking past, but ordering a simple cup of coffee in a quiet café will lead her into the extraordinary tale of a family's fight to survive the horror of the Spanish Civil War.

Review: Right from the start of this book I was unsure of where the book was heading and how two women learning to dance had anything to do with the Spanish Civil War, but eventually it started to make sense further into the book. I'm not sure if that's what put me off this book, I'm not a huge fan of war stories it's just not something that appeals to me, I also don't like reading books where some of the words are in a different language as I'm constantly having to look those words up so I can understand what I'm reading, which I find to be a pain, also I just didn't find the story gripping I found it pretty boring and far to strung out in my opinion. It may be a great story to someone who is interested in the Spanish Civil War, but personally I'm not so I gave up with this book half way through as I felt I had given it a decent chance for the story to get better and for me to start liking it, as neither of these happen I felt it would just be better to quit while I was ahead.

My Rating: 1/10
Would I Recommend?: Only if you like war stories or you're interested in Spain.

Chit Chat Thursday #1

Hey guys,

I wanted to do something different today so I thought what better than just a good old chit chat this shall be a series, probably not every week though just when I have something to say. :)

For today's chit chat I'm going to talk about my blog and give you a sense as to why I started it, what I hope to achieve from it and what my plans for the blog are.

At the start of 2013 I got a tad addicted to YouTube, I'd been watching videos before then but not very often unlike now where I'm watching videos everyday lol, when I first started watching videos I really only watched one Youtuber and that was Allthatglitters21 now know as Elle Fowler and her other channel called EllesGlitterGossip which is of course by the lovely Elle Fowler, and now I follow so many different Youtubers I often lose count lol

A lot of the Youtubers I subscribe to have blogs which I also read and because I'm not confident to be in front of the camera, plus I don't really have a camera that I could film with, i thought that I could start a blog and give my opinion on items without the pressure of being in front of a camera. I feel I have so much to say about the products I buy, whether it be clothes, make-up, books, food etc, that people could benefit from my reviews and help them either discover something new or to avoid it completely.

Most of the videos I watch are actually regarding make-up and even though I don't wear it much I still like to be in the know in case I decide to start wearing it on a regular basis, so it didn't really make much sense to start a blog about make-up when I'm not buying enough products to review, and then I  had a lightbulb moment and I came up with the idea to do a little bit of everything hence my blog name (littlebitofeverything) and so far I've done a DIY, book and movie reviews, July favourites and a shopping haul. I like the that my blog doesn't just focus on one thing, it has a bit of everything to suit who ever may come across and read it.

My blog was a project that I started when I broke up from work for the summer holidays (I work in a school) with having 6 weeks off it was the perfect opportunity to start it as it gave me enough time to get it up and running and working on posts that I want to put up every week. I'm not really on a posting schedule but as I'm going back to work next Tuesday I wanted to get into the routine of posting weekly which I believe I managed to stick to. I've had more readers viewing my blog than I ever thought possible, I didn't have any big ambitions for this blog, only if a handful people read this blog than I'm happy that you are reading this, your support means a lot :)

This is not something I'm rushing, I'd like to take each day as it comes. I know my blog has a long way to go (it's only a month old) I still don't have a proper title, the colour scheme is not what I want to keep, there's still a lot to do and being someone who doesn't know how to customise their blog without getting confused (which does not take much lol) it's going to take some time. I'm not good at describing things I feel I repeate my words and use the wrong words a lot but I hope to improve that as time goes on and I hope you all stick with me for the ride because there is so much more to come from my blog which you do not want to miss.

To give you a taste of what's to come in the next few weeks, I've got another book review, current TV shows that I'm watching, back to work haul and last one I'm going to tell you about is a hair care routine and as for the rest you will have to keep your eyes peeled :)

I plan to blog every Saturday and if I've not had a busy week as I shall be back at work I will try and upload a post on Wednesdays but no promises.

I hope you enjoyed this post, be sure to subscribe so I can see who my readers are :) feel free to leave comments I will reply to anyone who wishes to leave me one. Last but not least, why not follow me on the interweb and keep update with me :)

XOXO
Debbie

Now You See Me Movie Review

Hey,

I literally just finished this film and wanted to get out the review tonight so here it is :)

I get bored easily with films so it needs to grab my attention straight off the bat otherwise I will turn it off. No joke this film had me hooked from the start. If you're interested in magicians then this film is for you.

     *image from google images*

Description: An FBI agent and Interpol detective track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward the audiences with the money.

The film starts off showing you four solo magicians and how they are recruited to become a group known as The Four Horsemen. During the film the group successfully pulls of a bank job in front of an audience while being hunted by the FBI and Interpol, they are always 6 or 7 steps ahead and when you think you have figured it out turns out you really have no idea what they are up to. Towards the end of the show secrets and twists are revealed that will leave you with your mouth wide open. If you want to find out what happens then you will have to go warch it :) This is a film that you can watch again and again and never get bored! I couldn't recommend this film enough.

I hope you enjoyed this review :)

For more information on the film then just click here & here :)

Beautiful Redemption Book Review

Hey,

I recently finished reading Beautiful Redemption which was on my Summer Reading List and said I would do a review, so here it is :)

Beautiful Redemption
By Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
2012
456 Pages

Description: Ethan Wate has spent most of his life longing to escape the stiflingly small Southern town of Gatlin. He never thought he would meet the girl of his dreams, Lena Duchannes, who unveiled a secretive, powerful and cursed side of Gatlin, hidden in plain sight. And he never could have expected that he would be forced to leave behind everyone and everything he cares about. So when Ethan awakes after the chilling events of the Eighteenth moon, he has only one goal; to find a way to return to Lena and the ones he loves.

Review: I'm really gutted that this was the last book in the series as I really enjoyed reading them and they weren't your typical series where the more books there is, the more rubbish and drawn out the story gets.

Each book has its own unique story and by the time you read the last book everything comes together. Beautiful redemption is about a young boy defeating the odds and doing what ever it takes to get back to the girl he loves. It's a real touching story of everyone working together to make the world right again. It really tugs at your heart and has you feeling everything the characters are feeling. With this book you had the story both from Ethan and Lena's point of view which I thought was different and good, as all the other stories were told just by Ethan. Although I'm gutted the story has ended, it ended in the perfect way. A truly beautiful series.

Marks out of 10: 10/10
Would you recommend?: yes, yes and YES!

If you haven't read this series then I highly encourage you to go and get the first book and start reading if you like YA books, you won't be disappointed!

I hope you enjoyed this review, to read my other book reviews just click the links :)

DIY: How To Bake Coconut Biscuits

Hey Guys!

I did some cooking today well its more baking and i made some Butter Coconut Crisps and I thought I would share it with you. It's really simple and you don't need that many ingredients :) *warning* once these are cooled they go really hard so don't eat if u have weak teeth as you may end up losing a few, if u really want to eat these I suggest dunking them into a hot beverage to soften them and save your toothy pegs :)

Butter Coconut Crisps (makes about 30)

Ingredients You Will Need:

• -175g/6oz - Self-raising flour, sifted.
• - 225g/8oz, White Sugar
• - 1 Egg, Beaten
• - 125g/ 4oz, Butter, melted
• - 150g/ 5oz, Desiccated Coconut
• - Coco Powder (Optional)

*Preheat oven to 180'C/350'F/Gas Mark 4*

1. Mix the flour and sugar together.

2. Gradually beat in the egg.

3. Gradually fold in the melted butter.

4. If the mixture is too sticky (like the picture below) add more sifted flour

Tip: Keep adding flour till it has a doughy consistence.

Note: If you want to use coco powder now would be the time to add it, just gently fold it into the dough, best to do this with your hands.

5. Form into small balls and roll in the coconut.
Tip: I usually put the coconut and water in separate bowls as I find the dough can be a bit dry so the coconut doesn't stick very well, try dipping your fingertips into some water and gently dab over the ball.

6. Place on well greased baking trays or use baking sheets and place them spaced apart as they flatten during cooking.

7. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly brown or firm to touch.

8. Once cooked leave them to cool

10. Now the fun part eating them, enjoy :)

I hope you enjoyed this recipe, tweet or Instagram me your pictures :)

August Glossy Box

Heeeeeeeeeeeey!

I'm extremely late jumping on this wagon, but I made it and I'm glad I did. Subscription boxes are a big thing now and you can pretty much get a subscription box for everything.

For those of you that don't know what it is, you pay a certain amount of money for 5 samples a month that are delivered to your door.

In the case of the Glossy Box it's £10.00 (+P&P) and you get 5 hand picked samples.

Scroll down to find out what I got in my very first Glossy Box :)

The box is a light baby pink with a nice logo stamped in the middle

When you take the lid off your samples are covered with black tissue paper with a sticker on it showing it hasn't been tampered with and it's finished off with a bow. (I didn't wait to take that picture as I was too excited lol)

At a glance you can see I've been given some really great things to try this month and to top it off the products are from different countries :)

The first product which is a full size is a Eyelash curler and its from Sweden from the brand Emite Make Up and it retails for about £20, which you can get from their website. www.emitemakeup.com

My second product was a sample from the brand Urban Veda and it says its founded on ancient Indian Principles and I was given the Radiance Day Cream, which I did try and it smells amazing, it had a lingering smell and was still smelling it hours later and it left my face smooth. Full size starts at £7.99 which you can get from their website. www.urbanveda.co.uk

My third product was a 2-in-1 Shadow/liner from the brand Jelly Pong Pong. To me this seems like a decent sample it could be a full size but I'm unsure. This product is from good old England. I did give this a go on the back of my hand (check picture below) and it was easy to use, I didn't have to apply much pressure and it stayed on the back of my hand for most of the day. Mine was in the colour grey. Full size retails at £10.50. You can order yours from www.jellypongpong.com

My fourth product was another sample from the USA and its from the bran TRESemmè. It's a Keratin Smooth treatment shot for your hair. Haven't yet tried this but the brand is pretty good so I have high hopes for this product. Full size (15ml) retails at £1.49 which you can get from Superdrugs, Boots, Tesco and Waitrose.

For my last product I got the Makeup Remover Pen from the brand Ă“ceane which is from Brazil. This is a  size and comes with replacement tips and it allows you to remove excess makeup around your eyes, lips and corners. Not yet tried this but looking forward to when I do. It's not yet available in the UK, but for more information you can visit their website. www.oceane.com.br

Pretty excited to get all this in my first box and I look forward to the next few boxes. I hope you enjoyed this post, leave me comments if you've tried any of the products mentioned. Until next time TTFN.

XOXO
Debbie

Beautiful Chaos Review

Hey guys!

Here is my next review for Beautiful Chaos that appeared in my Summer Reading List! Lets get started :)

Beautiful Chaos #3
By Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
2011
516 Pages

Description: Ethan Wate thought he was getting used to the strange, impossible events happening in Gatlin, his small Southern town. But now that Ethan and Lena have returned home, strange and impossible have taken on new meanings. Swarms of locusts, record-breaking heat, and devastating storms ravage Gatlin as Ethan and Lena struggle to understand the impact of Lena's claiming. As time passes, one question becomes clear: What - or who - will need to be sacrificed to save Gatlin.

Review: This book is the third in the Caster series. I found this book to be very interesting, you get to learn more about the characters that you didn't know in the pervious two books. The story gives you a decent amount of fights, deaths and love. At one point I had tears because of how the story was ending (that's a sign of a good book if it can reduce you to tears, right?) as soon as the book ended I was desperate to start the next one just to find it what happens. I like how all the characters had a role rather then them just being in the book for no reason. It was a sad, but good book.

My Rating: 10/10
Would I Recommend It?: Yes! If you enjoyed the previous two books the you will no doubt love this book.

That was my review for this book, I hope you enjoyed it, until next time TTFN :)

Beautiful Creatures. Movie Vs Book Review

Hey guys!

I wanted to do something different today so I came up with reviewing a movie that was based on a book. I might even turn it into a series on my blog. A lot of books that are turned into films are usually crap with some exceptions (Harry Potter, LOTR) so today I'm going to reviewing Beautiful Creatures. Lets get started :)

Beautiful Creatures
2009
563 pages

Description: Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen. She struggles to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. Ethan Wate finally meets the girl who haunts his dreams. On her birthday, she must choose good or evil. In a town with no surprised, this secret cloud change everything. (From goodreads)

Review: I only discovered this book when I was about to watch the movie, so I held off from watching the movie and went and grabbed a copy of the book. I didn't know what to expect from this book when I first started reading it, but I was totally sucked in from the first chapter. The relationship between Ethan and Lena isn't your average teenage relationship. They have to deal with problems that most couples never have to cope with. Lena isn't your normal teenage girl. It's a great read for all YA and adults if you are a big fan of these types of books, its written really well and makes you feel like you are apart of their journey. There wasn't any parts that were boring or didn't make sense. The story was easy to follow with enough secrets to keep you guessing till the end. By the time the book finishes, you are left wanting to read the next book in the series.

My Rating: 10/10
Would I Recommend: Yes!

Now for the movie review.

Beautiful Creatures
2013

Description: Ethan longs to escape his small Southern town. He meets a mysterious new girl, Lena. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town.

Review: I had such high hopes for this movie and was really excited to be watching this BUT about five minutes in, I knew that it wasn't going to be as good as the book :( which I was really gutted about because the book was just so good! The actors didn't fit the characters one bit, its almost like they didn't even bother to audition the actors, felt like they picked some strangers off the street and plonked them into the movie. The actors didn't seem like they put much effort into their roles their was no passion between them unlike in the book. The film was just dry and boring that I struggled to get through it but I powered through and finished it. It's one film I won't ever watch again.

My Rating: its so bad that it gets 0/10
Would I Recommend: No!

That completes this review I hope you enjoyed it. Check back soon for more. If you want me to review any books or movies then just let me know in the comments below. Until next time folks TTFN!

Little Miracles Book Review

Hey guys!

Another book review. Enjoy :)

I was given this book for my birthday (which was in May) but have only just got round to reading it. This book also featured in my Summer Reading List. Continue reading to find out my review :)

Little Miracles
Giselle Green
2009
408 Pages

Description: When Julia Fearon arrives in Spain  with fiancĂ© Charlie and their toddler Haydn, she is excited at the prospect of meeting his family.

But tragedy strikes and Haydn disappears on a day out at the beach. Whilst the authorities presume him drowned, Julie is tortured by the thought that her child is still alive - and has been snatched.

Grief-stricken, Julia searches for the truth whilst Charlie throws himself into work. Can Julia find the strength to let Haydn go? Or will her faith be rewarded with the truth?

Review: I had been reading this book for a couple of weeks and it doesn't usually take me that long to finish a book, normally a couple of days but with this book I found it so hard to get into, it starts off slow and only gets a little bit exciting when Haydn disappears then that starts to drag until you get to about half way then its slowly picks up again and about 3/4 of the way in, it gets really good and made me want to finish it which I did but if left me seriously disappointed in the ending. In my opinion it was a crap ending and really could have ended much better. The writing wasn't very good at some parts it seemed like the author missed out some words so a lot of it didn't make sense or read properly. So I was extremely disappointed in this book!

Rating: 1/10
Would I recommend?: Only if you like slow starts and crappy endings but on a whole I would not recommend this book.

Movies i've watched + Review

Hey guys!

Over the past couple of months, I've watched some really good movies, so I thought I would let you folks know what I've watched and do a review of them.

Lets get started :)

Monsters University
2013

Description: A look at the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at the University of fear - when they weren't necessarily the best of friends.

Review: I was super excited when this movie came out, so I went and saw it and I'm glad I did because it is a great film. It leaves you laughing out loud and close to tears at some parts. The film basically shows you how Mike and Sulley met at University and how they end up becoming friends and working together. A good family film.

The Croods
2013

Description: After their cave is destroyed, a caveman's family must trek through an unfamiliar fantastical world with the help of an inventive boy.

Review: I wasn't really expecting to much from this film. I'm pretty sure it's aimed at kids more than adults but I love these type of films, so I gave it a chance. It was an okay film not the best I've seen but not the worse either. It had me laughing at some parts and on a whole it was a nice film but probably won't be watching it again. I recommend it if you have children.

The Heat
2013

Description: An uptight FBI Special Agent is paired with a foul-mouthed Boston Cop to take down a ruthless drug lord.

Review: When I saw the trailer for this movie I knew I had to go and see it, I'm a big fan of Bullock and McCarthy so them being in the same movie you just know its going to be good. And it really was brilliant, it was funny and touching, while towards the end of the movie they get closer. They work well together and I hope they make some more movies together.

Wreck-It-Ralph
2012

Description: A video game Villain wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfil his dreams, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives.

Review: This and Monsters University are the two best films I've seen this year. I like that it had familiar characters that I grow up with. Ralph is a game villain who is hated by everyone in his game, so he sets out to find a game where he will be liked and along the way he makes a friends and sets out to make his dream come true. It's a funny, feel good movie suitable for all ages.

Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters
2013

Description: In this dark spin on the fairy tale, siblings Hansel and Gretel are a formidable team of bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.

Review: I was never a big fan of the fairy tale when I was a kid, but now they put a dark spin on it I became interested. Hans and Gretel are hired to fired the children that are being kidnapped by the witches and along the way they discover what happened to them as children. It's a good film, a little bloody at times but I highly recommend it.

Safe Haven
2013

Description: A young woman with a mysterious past lands in the Southport, North Carolina where her bond with a widower forces her to confront the dark secret that haunts her.

Review: I knew this film was coming out so I set out to read the book so I could compare them both. It's not as good as the book. They missed a lot of details or changed things completely. But on a whole it is a nice film. But the book is much better.

City of Bones Book Review!

Hey guys!

I mentioned in my Summer Reading List blog that I would do a review on the books that was listed so here's the first one for you :)

Mortal Instruments: City of Bones #1
Cassandra Clare
2009

Description: When fifteen-year old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder, much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons.

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadow-hunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours Clary is attacked by a demon and her mother disappears. The Shadow-hunters  are very interested in her.....

Review: I was pleasantly surprised by this book. You know how they say "don't judge a book by its cover"? Well Im not one to usually judge but I have to say on this occasion I did and the book cover didn't appeal to me one bit, but then I heard a movie was being made on it so I decided to put my judgement aside and I give it a go. Once you've read one of the YA books you've pretty much read them all but I'm glad I did. The storyline is average and easy to figure out, the relationship between Jace and Clary is cute and their humour is funny, leaving me actually laughing out loud. Rubbish ending but I guess that's the point as it leaves you wanting to read the second book.

My Rating: 7/10
Would I recommend?: Yes!
