If you have read my Read & Ramble post then you will know I joined a book club and for the month of January I picked The Fault In Our Stars to read and today I bring you my review.
The Fault In Our Stars
Published: 2012
313 Pages
Description: Despite the tumour-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.
Review: I only got this book to see what all the fuss was about. First off I wasn't impressed, it didn't feel like I was going to like it, but by the end of chapter 1 something happened, it's almost liked something smacks you in the face and the book suddenly becomes bloody good.
It was a really sweet story, it does tug at the heart strings but it didn't get me shedding any tears, if you are the emotional type then I suggest you have some tissues close by. Even though some say the story is depressing, I never felt that way, perhaps because the characters aren't feeling sorry for themselves. The story has a unique humour to it and you find yourself laughing. Towards the end of the book I started feeling extremely grateful that I'm healthy.
I was disappointed with the ending, I felt like they left it on a cliff hanger even thought there is no follow on, but someone explained the ending to me and I sorta understand why the author ended the book how he did but I still didn't like it. It's a great read and could see myself reading it again.
My Rating: 4/5
Would I Recommend?: Yes, even if you read it to find out what all the fuss is about, by the end you will be glad that you gave it a chance.
